Why I built create.sala.video

I hate what Vimeo became.

For more than a decade Vimeo was the home for high-end cinematography, indie shorts, and festival submissions — the place you sent people when you wanted them to see your work. Then it turned into enterprise software. The pricing climbed, the dashboard filled with features no filmmaker has ever touched, and somewhere along the way it stopped serving the artist and started serving the marketing department.

I got sick of paying more every year for a product that was essentially a public place to share videos — it was drifting further and further from what I needed. So over the last few weeks I built the thing I actually wanted.

create.sala.video was initially designed as a simple video hosting site, where you could share videos behind a protected password. Then I thought, I could also include stills and photos and the written material associated with producing a film. I then built in simple viewer feedback functionality on the share links, and that was it. Today it's a presentation workspace built for filmmakers and content creators — directors, cinematographers, editors, production companies, influencers, and anyone whose work is the moving image. One place for your trailers, screeners, stills, documents and the shareable pages you send to festivals, distributors, collaborators and clients. Nothing else. No funnels, no webinar tooling, no AI-script gimmicks. Just clean hosting and a workspace that lets your work speak for itself.
